There’s a new live music event to enrich the lives of New York Café’s guests. Live gypsy music accompanies the delights of a good coffee, delicious food and the atmosphere of the Most Beautiful Café in the World from the beginning of September.
There has always been live gypsy music in the New York Café, but previously it was only periodical entertainment, while now, since the beginning of September, the musicians play every day between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. – for fifteen minutes each hour. Their huge repertoire covers nearly everything, they can play thousands of pieces by heart, classical as well as modern music. It practically means that you can ask for your favourite whatever that might be, the musicians will be able to play it to you, from “Pacsirta” (Lark) to “My Heart Will Go On” from Titanic.
Lugosi Salon Gipsy Band – live gypsy music in the New York Café every day
The band’s founder and art director, Tibor Lugosi plays the clarinet and the traditional Hungarian instrument, the “tárogató”, and has been awarded for his quality musical activities. The band was established in 1995, its members have decades of experience and are the best of Budapest’s gypsy musicians. Their most important mission is to entertain in a professional, high quality way, which also describes the sophisticated music of the band. Their repertoire is outstanding, an elegant selection from various musical genres. While they offer operetta, musical or film soundtrack music, they also strive to highlight solo pieces of virtuoso instrumental music such as clarinet, tárogató or cimbalom. They interpret not only Hungarian folk and gypsy music but also music by Brahms, Kodály, Bartók or Liszt.
The management of the New York Café decided to offer their guests live gypsy music because they wish to engage them in a complex experience: excellent coffee and premium quality range are not all what visitors are after: they want a unique experience. Live gypsy music is a rare Hungaricum and such bands are expensive to maintain, thus fewer and fewer hotels or restaurants can afford it. New York Café provides its guests with this luxury as well as with live piano music, which is also featured as day-to-day entertainment, or with gift postcards which our staff can even post for you.
