An elegant restaurant in Budapest – The Salon restaurant welcomes lovers of fine dining in an elegant setting!

Why shouldn’t we wake up one day and have breakfast somewhere other than our usual spot, and have lunch at midday somewhere other than our usual place – say, in the restaurant of the World’s Most Beautiful Café, for example? After all, with its atmosphere and stunning architectural features, it is sure to enchant everyone! And where does this magical, incomparable atmosphere come from? As soon as you step inside, you can already sense that this is something completely different from anything you’ve experienced before – wherever you may have travelled in the world. Everything here is so elegant and captivating that it’s hard to single out just one thing… Yet we must go back roughly to the mid-1800s if we are to find an answer to this question. It was around this time that Max Aufricht arrived in Budapest with a single silver forint and a wealth of ambition in his pocket. He had already been commissioned by the director of the New York Insurance Company – under the name Miksá Arányi – to establish the Hungarian network, whose headquarters have remained on the Körút ever since.   Meanwhile, the restaurant at the New York Palace is no longer just a café but also operates as a restaurant: the Salon restaurant, which offers fine dining dishes to food lovers, can be accessed via the New York Café.

Why choose the Salon restaurant? An elegant restaurant in Budapest, set in a discreet yet easily accessible location in the city centre…

The Café – which is all bronze, marble, silk and velvet – once welcomed writers and poets (that is to say, artists) with its beautiful twisted columns, a balcony, chandeliers and frescoes – welcomed the company of writers, poets (that is to say, artists) in its day, just as it welcomes guests with a taste for fine things today. These delights represent not only the pinnacle of gastronomic pleasure in New York, but also the epitome of elegance.   However, for those who do not seek the lively atmosphere of the Café – but rather a discreet, quiet setting where they can enjoy a business dinner, or a private lunch or dinner – we recommend the Salon restaurant.   We owe our exclusive, fine-dining menus, curated with artistic care, to our highly acclaimed chef, András Wolf.

The success of the New York Művész Páholy lies, on the one hand, in the fact that the organisers put their heart and soul into organising their events every month, driven by a commitment to culture. The audience is always presented with a topical message, ensuring that each evening has a clear character and atmosphere, conveying the diversity and values of knowledge, culture and the arts to the audience in a down-to-earth and direct manner. This directness is one of the defining features of the programmes. An event of this scale could not take place if the management of the Café, or its managing director, Csaba Szabó, did not take the event to heart. However, the enthusiasm remains undiminished. Just like that of the hostess, Anna Juhász, who presents the programmes with authenticity, not only through her knowledge and preparation, but because literature runs through her veins: she herself is the daughter of a contemporary poetic giant. Nor can we overlook the now entirely unusual approach to guest communication. One of the driving forces behind the event, Diana Józsa, the marketing manager, personally coordinates and responds to participants’ registrations and enquiries. This form of communication plays a major role in fostering a friendly, direct rapport, and this is clearly reflected in the guests’ reactions. The enthusiastic team at the New York Művész Páholy, working alongside Anna, is thus able to create a highly guest-centred and successful series of literary events.
Continuing the series we have begun, our aim year on year is for art and our country’s most acclaimed artists to find a home at the Café through these high-quality, enriching evenings, so that there may be a place where like-minded people, committed to art, culture can meet, where, in a „New York-style” atmosphere, culture takes centre stage one evening a month. The New York Művész Páholy evenings have become so popular that places sell out within 1–2 hours of registration opening. This means that sometimes more than 500 guests attend a single evening in the series.
