Hungary’s winning promotional film premieres at the world’s most beautiful café

„MT Zrt. has titled its short film about our country ”Think Hungary – more than expected„, or, in Hungarian, ”Gondolj Magyarországra, több, mint amire gondolsz!„. The film was shot back in 2013, with the aim of showing the world Hungary from a different perspective to that of the ”land of paprika, goulash, horses and csárdas’. In other words: to prove that there is much more to this small country than people have previously realised!

Hungary is the best on the continent!

When making the film, the production team sought out filming locations that would fittingly and faithfully symbolise our country, as well as Hungarian culture, creativity and progress. This is how Heroes’ Square, the Hévíz Thermal Baths, the Széchenyi Baths, the Chain Bridge and, of course, the ‘Hungarian Sea’, Lake Balaton, found their way into the film.  – And so the historic New York Café also appeared at the start of the short film, a venue steeped in history and associated with romance, creativity and artistic culture. The competition for the best tourism films and adverts was announced to mark the 21st General Assembly of the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO), and the winner was announced on Saturday 19 September. Out of the 51 participating member states, winners were selected by region, and Hungary won the award for the best film on the European continent. However, this is not the first award the video has won; back in 2014 – when the New York Café was celebrating its 120th anniversary – it had already won two other awards. The first, the so-called Silver Dolphin Award, was presented at the Cannes Corporates Media & TV Awards ceremony, whilst the second was won in Shanghai in the Best Tourism Image Film category. The one-and-a-half-minute video focuses on the capital and the ‘Hungarian Sea’, emphasising development, culture and health tourism. The New York Café, with its history and traditions stretching back more than 120 years, has now become a symbol of Hungary. It is a hub of Hungarian literature, culture and the arts, where creativity, romance and freedom of thought take centre stage. It is therefore no coincidence that the directors of our country’s award-winning film chose ‘The World’s Most Beautiful Café’ as their starting point! The New York Café proudly continues to uphold its historic reputation to this day, and, as the World’s Most Beautiful Café, it welcomes not only local guests but also a multitude of foreign visitors day after day with its elegance and quality, renowned far and wide. We are proud to have contributed to this success, and we shall continue to promote our country’s reputation with respect and admiration within the walls of the New York Café! We offer our heartfelt congratulations to the winning film! Let the world know that Hungary is more than they ever thought!

The success of the New York Művész Páholy lies, on the one hand, in the fact that the organisers put their heart and soul into organising their events every month, driven by a commitment to culture. The audience is always presented with a topical message, ensuring that each evening has a clear character and atmosphere, conveying the diversity and values of knowledge, culture and the arts to the audience in a down-to-earth and direct manner. This directness is one of the defining features of the programmes. An event of this scale could not take place if the management of the Café, or its managing director, Csaba Szabó, did not take the event to heart. However, the enthusiasm remains undiminished. Just like that of the hostess, Anna Juhász, who presents the programmes with authenticity, not only through her knowledge and preparation, but because literature runs through her veins: she herself is the daughter of a contemporary poetic giant. Nor can we overlook the now entirely unusual approach to guest communication. One of the driving forces behind the event, Diana Józsa, the marketing manager, personally coordinates and responds to participants’ registrations and enquiries. This form of communication plays a major role in fostering a friendly, direct rapport, and this is clearly reflected in the guests’ reactions. The enthusiastic team at the New York Művész Páholy, working alongside Anna, is thus able to create a highly guest-centred and successful series of literary events.
Continuing the series we have begun, our aim year on year is for art and our country’s most acclaimed artists to find a home at the Café through these high-quality, enriching evenings, so that there may be a place where like-minded people, committed to art, culture can meet, where, in a „New York-style” atmosphere, culture takes centre stage one evening a month. The New York Művész Páholy evenings have become so popular that places sell out within 1–2 hours of registration opening. This means that sometimes more than 500 guests attend a single evening in the series.
